Carl Herman Woiwod, 78, son of Carl and Anna (Schiska) Woiwod, Sr., was born June 19, 1890 in Garner and died Sunday, June 8, at his home. He was baptized in the Lutheran church on July 27, 1890 and was confirmed on March 27, 1904, in the Lutheran faith, and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

On June 9, 1914 he was married to Matilda Wrede at Dayton, Iowa, and to this union four children were born, Mrs. Ben (Esther) Pannhuh, Mason City; Mrs. Fred (Vera) Weiss, Garner; Marvin, Mt. Vernon, Washington; and Orville of Garner. His wife preceded him in death on December 2, 1939.

He was married to Martha Buth on April 30, 1941. He farmed in the Garner community all his life until retiring in 1948 to his home in Garner.

Survivors include his wife, four children, twelve grandchildren, and one brother Will, of Sun City, California, and two sisters, Mrs. Louis (Lena) Grell, Ventura and Mrs. Anna Bohn of Garner.

Services were held Wednesday, June 11, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm, with Pastor L.G. Leonard, officiating. Words of comfort were Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil: for Thou art with me.”

Music was congregational singing, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me” and “Be Still My Soul”. Accompanied on the organ by Miss Janice Tarrence.

Honorary pallbearers were B.C. Berge, Omer Kramer, Gayle Tice, Lawrence Radloff, Edward Boehnke, and Albert Boehnke. Pallbearers were Reuben Grell, Milton Bohn, Ernest Woiwod, Vincent Woiwood, Arlo Woiwod and Enos Wrede.

Burial was in the Concord cemetery, Garner.
